Socal Spinters Round 8 Championship @ Adams Motorsports Park
August 13, 2011 -
The round 8 of the So-Cal Sprinters championship returns to Adams Motorsports Park on a very warm weather 95F.
Morning practice 1 didn’t went very well as we had a bad tire strategy. We had to replace the front tires and only had a set of good used tire left. The rears tires had only 30% of like remaining and made the kart having too much front grip cause a lot of over-steer. Lap time was about 2 seconds off the pace.
For Practice 2 some setup adjustments were made to free the front of the chassis and reduce the front grip. Gap at the end of the session was 1 second off-pace.
Morning went fast and it’s time to put the race tires for Qualify, we put a good even set of tires which made the kart handling better and more consistent. The one lap qualify session went smooth and Qualify 3rd, only 0.3s off the pole.
At the drop of the green flag for the Heat race, I gained a position and jump on 2nd place, but after couple laps some brake issue and under-steer appeared. A mistake in the esses cost me a position. I was struggling until the end of the race but finish on a good 3rd position for the Main Race event.
Some new brake fluid and front width setup adjustment were changed for the Main Event. Not a perfect start for the Main Race as I didn’t manage to use the inside track position to gain a place. The kart felt great after the last setup change and had a consistent run staying in the tail of the leader. A 3rd place podium finish concludes this 8th round of the so-cal sprinters championship.
